Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center

On Tuesday, our office had the opportunity to meet with Woody Sherman, Executive Director, and Marilyn Krill, Administrative Director, of the  Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center. The meeting was very informative and educational about the future performing arts center. And let’s not forget…very exciting!

Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center Site Plan

The proposed $23.5 million dollar project will provide an opportunity for major conferences, symposia and conventions that ultimately will stimulate the economic development in the Gunnison Valley. Many have said and believe that it will be a major game changer for the local economy.

Ultimately, the center location will anchor the north end of the Mountaineer Square Town Center. Currently present in the town center is everything highlighted in green on the site plan which includes the existing Grand Lodge and The Lodge at Mountaineer Square.

The center will offer 500 seat Performance Hall for patrons of the ever growing need for capacity, especially with the popular Crested Butte Music Festival. Whether you are on the stage or in the audience, the Performance Hall will take your breath away and is guaranteed to be the jewel of the project! The center will also feature a Grand Lobby showcasing the incredible views of Crested Butte Mountain and a Performance Gallery to support small performances, conferences, and private special events. The Center will also support the development of Mountaineer Square North which will include new shops, restaurants and hotels. Visitors to the facility will create significant spending, in turn supporting the local businesses. The center will fulfill a vision for the future as a symbol of culture, education and achievement for the Gunnison Valley.

“The Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center will elevate the quality of the arts in the whole region, and it’s definitely a game changer for the local economy.”  William Buck, Mayor, Mt. Crested Butte

If you would like to contribute to the center’s current Capital Campaign, please download the pledge form from their website. You can also contact their office if you would like information about specific naming and giving opportunities for their current Capital Campaign. Or feel free to contact myself, I would be happy to put you in touch.

Great concept but where is it in terms of reality? Any projections as to date of ground breaking? Completion? Any organized ongoing fund raising in place? In other words, what are the next steps in making this happen? Interested for many reasons, especially since I am a property owner in the immediate area. Thanks, Carole

    • Hi Carole,
Yes, I agree. It is a great concept. Currently, they do have organized fund raising in place and can be reached off their website or in the links I provided in my blog post. According to Woody Sherwood, they would like to see approximately 60% of the total project cost before moving forward with the plans. By the looks of it, they are getting pretty close with 44% raised to date.
