Coming across a lovely, non-chain bookstore, with a non-chain coffee shop adjacent is practically unheard of these days. But here in Crested Butte we are lucky to have Townie Books and Rumors Coffee and Tea House conveniently located right downtown. Townie Books has been opened since June of 2011. They have a wide selection of books and other bookstore items for their customers to enjoy. The shelves are stocked with the latest fiction and non-fiction releases, lots of children’s books, and many books that have a Colorado specific theme. You can also find journals, games, puzzles, and maps – it’s a great place to find a really cool gift! Townie Books is very proud to be part of the Crested Butte community, and encourages people who love books to spend hours and hours in their store, browsing, reading, and enjoying a nice cup of coffee.
Rumors is the coffee shop that started it all! Opened in June of 2009, owners Arvin Ram and Danica Ayraud just wanted to open a spot where people could come in, relax, do some work, and perhaps enjoy a pastry. A couple years later they added Townie Books to the mix. Between the two stores customers will find a similar feel of comfort and convenience. The shop is also very involved with the Crested Butte community. Every month they have local artists featured and have an opening for them the first Friday of each month. They are open late, and hold poetry readings and live music on the weekends. The next poetry night is May 26 at 7 p.m.
Need advice on what book to pick up next? Join the Townie Books Book Club! Anyone is welcomed to join. You can be part of the club for one month, or the whole year. All you have to do is check out the web site for what book they’re reading (the book they will be discussing at the next meeting, May 11th at 6:30 is The Social Animal by David Brooks) and show up to the meeting. Also, book club members enjoy a 20% discount on the book the club is reading. Another fun event is the children’s story time. Kids get to exercise their imaginations hearing some really awesome stories, and a free healthy snack is provided.
If you have questions about buying or selling a home in the Crested Butte community, I would love to hear from you!
